"Somerset Hills Drive For The Kids"
On November 15th, 2009, The Stable, Ltd. was once again proud to sponsor "A Drive of the Kids" here on the local roads surronding our showroom. With all profits going directly to The Somerset Hills Learning Institute, participants not only had a great time driving and socializing, but also were able to support a great cause. As with the earlier drive this year, our hostess and organizer--Samantha Meighan--did a fabulous job putting the whole event together, but disavowed credit for the rain ending early and the day developing into one of spectacular Fall beauty--and dry roads.
Old world craftmanship was evident in the Morgan Plus Eight which contrasted sharply with the state-of-the-art technology of the Ferrari Enzo. Another Ferrari, but of a different era, a 250 Short Wheelbase Berlinetta, took home the People's Choice award and the driver of the vehicle following the SWB was heard to say that following that fabulous car through our curvy narrow roads was enough to transport him in his mind to a time very different from today.
The entry of The Stable, our 1979 Aston Martin V-8 coupe, is getting to be an old friend, this being the third time in the past two decades that the car has been in our showroom for sale. Our current record holder, by the way, for number of trips though our showroom, is a also an Aston Martin--DB4348L--which is currently in Switzerland but which we hope will again return to its home in the Somerset Hills. We have sold that very lovely car eight times in the past 35 years.
Porsches ranged from an early short wheelbase 911 to a GT-3 (driven by Samantha's father) and Ferraris and Lamborghinis had a strong showing this time. The only DNF of the event was a Porsche which fell by the wayside to due a faulty fuel gauge report to the driver and, judging by the conversation at the deliciuous lunch catered back at the Somerset Hills Learning Institute, all drivers and navigators truly enjoyed the day.
