TWINS AT THE STABLE

--and other news--

After a walk through the showroom, I can't help but notice that the "pairs" concept is indeed entrenched here. Two mid-80's Porsche cabriolets have just arrived--both from local owners and both in spectacular original condition. A pair of early Rolls-Royce Silver Shadows arrived together and are here in the showroom-reminiscent of the pair of 1993 Bentley Turbo sedans--both immaculate and with mileage in the 20's, which arrived simultaneously. As with the pair of absolute twin red with white stripes 2005 Ford GT's which arrived together (one local and one from California), one of each pair sold immediately (to local woman who took the car to her home in Florida) and one of each remains here for sale.

Recent arrivals of note: a pair of Mercedes-Benz 300SL roadsters. One, a 1960 in red with black leather, sold instantly to a Florida collector and the other, a 1958 in beautiful silver-green with cognac leather and two tops, is on display in the front showroom window. It has always been a curiosity how cars seem to arrive at The Stable in pairs. As with the 300SL's, one sold instantly and one is still on display on the front showroom window. Two beautiful 1967 MGB roadsters recently arrived from two different customers--one sold to a Louisiana enthusiast, the other is in the showroom. Two red with tan leather Mercedes-Benz SL-500's also recently arrived with no connection between them, one sold locally and the other is here on display. The two mid-year Corvette roadsters which are currently in the showroom--both numbers-correct cars, both with 327/350 horsepower engines and 4-speed transmission and both in beautiful condition--are in the showroom. We're just waiting to see the arrival of a mate for our 1994 Unimog, our 1949 Buick Roadmaster woody wagon or our 1946 Chevrolet stake-body truck. At that point, we'll really have to wonder about the structure of the universe---

Our gorgeous black 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special just sold to a retired gentleman from Colorado who, when initially calling about the car, asked if we would feel confident in a long drive in the car. Receiving an answer in the affirmative, he and his brother, a retired physician, flew into Newark, collected the car, went to New York City for a couple of days of sight-seeing and then drove off on a road trip ending at home in Colorado. The new owner called as he and his brother pulled in to his Grand Junction, Colorado driveway to report that aside from the Cadillac's radio giving up the ghost just outside of Denver, and a heavy snow storm which sidelined them for two days in Kansas, they had no negative experiences to report and car performed flawlessly. It gained their respect as well as the appreciation of scores of folks in diners, at gas stations and along the roads on the car's drive West.

The trip was reminiscent of one taken by a fellow in his '90's whom we collected at the Newark airport upon his arrival from Texas. He was dependant upon his cane to assist in walking, but made immediate note of the fact that the cane was not due to age infirmities, but was as a result of his fighter plane crashing in World War II. A very spirited fellow, he slid into the white 1995 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur--in which he was interested and which we used to collect him at the airport--and tossed his cane into the back seat. He drove the car to The Stable, consumated the sale and drove off to Texas. Three days later he called from home to report that he had a great trip and the car performed perfectly--in fact, he said, the new white car behaved exactly as well as the black Silver Spur which he already had at home. He remarked that, as his age, he had grown tired of being asked to use his car at his friend's funerals and wanted to be invited to more weddings!

Stay tuned for other current goings-on----
